Suggested Reading: Punisher: War Zone - Bloodshed With Frank!
Hello again comic book fans and cinephiles! It's Roman, your comic book guide to the stars, back again for the holiday season. We've had a bit of a slump in the comic book movie genre, but with a full stomach and a season's greeting, I hope to lead us back home. And what better way to start off the Christmas month than with a bit of bloodshed - Punisher: War Zone! I am with you all. I too have this nagging feeling towards this movie. Marvel puts out two really kick ass movies this summer and then the Punisher: War Zone trailer rears its ugly head. I want it to be awesome, but can't ignore its seemingly numerous flaws. For me those flaws include what appeared to be the Punisher running around and jumping off walls while fighting, hanging and spinning from a chandelier while killing thugs, and finally one of ...

Watchmen's Running Time Gets Shorter, But Does That Matter?
The last time we talked with Zack Snyder, he mentioned that the running time of Watchmen was expected to be around 2 hours and 43 minutes. The Dark Knight, in comparison, ran 2 hours and 32 minutes, slightly shorter. While referencing running times to judge how good or bad a movie might be is foolish, we thought it'd worth mentioning that the movie has been getting shorter, only for the sake of talking further about the Watchmen universe. In an interview with SciFi recently, Zack and his wife / producing partner Deborah Snyder revealed that the running time is now closer to 2 hours and 35 minutes. So why does this really matter? Well, fans have been impressed by the trailers so far, so the only thing they're still hesitant about is whether the story lives up to the very extensive one found in the graphic novel. To most, that story ...

Check This Out: Teaser Poster for Alex Proyas' Knowing
Forget Roland Emmerich's 2012, Alex Proyas' Knowing is the apocalypse movie we should be all looking forward to! Ain't It Cool News has debuted the first teaser poster for the film that thankfully doesn't feature the face of Nicolas Cage anywhere on it. You might've already forgotten about the teaser trailer that we ran for Knowing way back in early July, so do yourself a big favor and watch it again. This poster is pretty slick and I'm sure it's going to catch the attention of quite a few passersby. Though we're all still wondering whether Proyas has made another great movie, since most believe he lost his touch with I Robot, although I personally disagree. And will Nic Cage recover himself? What do you think? Knowing is directed by Alex Proyas of The Crow, Dark City, Garage Days, and I, Robot previously. The script was written by a combination of ...

Paul Morrison's Little Ashes Trailer with Robert Pattinson
Little Ashes is a biopic of sorts that follows artist Salvador Dalí, played by Twilight star Robert Pattinson, filmmaker Luis Buñuel, played by Matthew McNulty, and writer Federico García Lorca, played by Javier Beltran, in Spain during the 1920s. As much as I was curious to see a film about the life of one of my favorite artists, this doesn't look that good. It looks like it was shot well, on location in Spain, but that doesn't make a great film in the end. I'll still hold my breath and hope for the best, but unfortunately I'm not impressed. Though I know Twilight fans will still swoon over Pattinson all day long. Kristen Stewart to Play Joan Jett in Runaways Biopic
I guess the dark air of Twilight caught the attention of music video director Floria Sigismondi, as the woman behind Christina Aguilera's "Fighter" video is set to write and helm a biopic on the first all-girl rock band, The Runaways, and wants vampire victim Kristen Stewart to take on the role of rock legend Joan Jett. If you're scratching your head, I'm with you. Stewart can certainly pull off the look and is a fair actress by most accounts, but I'm going to find it hard to bridge her swooning Bella character in Twilight and the badass, ballsy rocker Jett, who went on to sing "I Love Rock and Roll." Of course, this is great news for Stewart and her career, but I wonder how fans of Jett and The Runaways will take this news. Sharing the screen with Kristen will be another rocker chick playing the role of Cherrie Currie, ...

Bad Ass Red Band Trailer for Horror Indie Donkey Punch
Magnet has unveiled the first red band trailer for Donkey Punch over on IGN. If you've got a nasty grin on your face because you know what that term actually means, then you deserve a round of applause (and it'll come in handy while watching the trailer), but if not, then I don't encourage you to find out. Donkey Punch here though is actually an indie horror film about a group of partiers who start dying on a boat off the shore of Spain. It's described as sexy, violent, and many other things, so I think you'll want to check it out, though it's a red band trailer which means there's at least something inappropriate! I don't exactly know what the "Unrated Bare Knuckle Cut" is, but it sounds pretty damn cool, especially as something to see in theaters. Unfortunately I kept missing screenings of this at numerous film festivals, so ...

Johnny Depp Joining Nick Tosches' In the Hand of Dante Adaptation
Speaking of pirates, Johnny Depp has yet another new project lined up. Depp's production company, Infinitum Nihil, has acquired the rights to Nick Tosches' novel "In the Hand of Dante" that was first published in 2002. The book is about Dante's "The Divine Comedy," and tells parallel storylines involving Dante in 14th-century Italy as he tries to complete the work, and a contemporary storyline involving Tosches, who is asked to authenticate what might be Dante's original manuscript. Depp is looking at potentially starring in the film as Tosches, not Dante. No word on who might write or direct yet. Depp has a very busy schedule over the next few years, including another Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lone Ranger, so who knows when and/or if he will still show up in In the Hand of Dante,. It sounds like a rather fascinating story and I'm intrigued by the parallel storyline ...

Phillip Noyce Remaking 1936 Pirate Flick Captain Blood
Pirates are still in! Warner Brothers is remaking the 1935 swashbuckling pirate film Captain Blood that starred Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland and Basil Rathbone. Phillip Noyce, of Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and Catch a Fire, is set to direct and John Brownlow, of Sylvia and quite a few in-development projects, will write the screenplay. The original film, set in the 1600s, told the the story of a doctor who was convicted of treason and sold into slavery before he escaped to the high seas as a pirate. Obviously Warner Brothers is taking a cue from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise... I've never seen Captain Blood (do you know anyone that has?), but the tagline for it says that it's "the most magnificent and thrilling sea adventure ever filmed." I damn well hope so! I am, however, quite concerned about Phillip Noyce. I didn't even think he could ...
